Training
Facilitating conversations about race and racism in the classroom is challenging; we are here to support you. High quality anti-racism education for both staff and students is essential, and we believe that this education should be ongoing.
Becoming Anti-Racist Educators- Foundational Training (2.5 hours)
Session 1: Developing Racial Literacy
This opening session invites participants to critically reflect on and explore the concepts of ‘race’ and racism. Participants will examine the historical construction of ‘race’ and consider how racism functions as an organising force within society.
The session introduces racial socialisation as a key concept, exploring how beliefs, messages, systems, policies and practices are shaped, reinforced, and sustained over time. Designed as a foundational entry point, this session supports staff to build confidence, understanding, and shared language around racial literacy.
Session 2: Identifying and Challenging Racism
Building on the learning from Session 1, this session supports staff to work collaboratively in applying racial literacy to their own educational context in practical and meaningful ways.
Participants will be supported to:
Identify how racial inequities may present within schools and educational settings
Recognise and challenge deficit thinking and assumptions
Critically examine existing policies, systems, and practices
Plan meaningful, informed actions that promote equitable outcomes for all students
